HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE UP COMING SCHOOL BOND REFERENDUM?
On April 26 the Beaufort County School District will ask you to approve a $162.7 million bond referendum designed to provide the funds necessary to repair the existing schools, build the new schools necessary to meet the present student load and buy land for the construction of future schools. If approved, this would cost the owner of a $200,000 home an additional $16 - $24 annually in property taxes.

04-11-2008 07:22:10 - Rich & Betty Gibbons: Several. To large amount at once and not clearly defined. To much going south of the broad. Bluffton has brought this on themselves, now their asking the rest of the county to bail them out.
0 04-02-2008 05:37:17 - Ken Bush: Time to support our new School Leadership.
03-14-2008 11:14:30 - Daniel Bates: We need money for more educational purposes and not more facilities.
03-10-2008 07:43:36 - planters cir ldis: lets take care of the schools we now have and improve the education of the students. More schools and new ones just so they can be destroyed by the students. I dont think so . take care of what we have and add to them not build new
03-10-2008 07:21:27 - Don Mead: We are headed into a long and deep recessioh. Equity values are declining, and debt is increasing. Ways must be found immediately to cut taxes, not increase them. Get a grip on reality and withdraw this bond referendum.

03-09-2008 09:31:31 - Michael Brandau: During my years of association with the Beaufort County School District, I have not seen a more thoroughly researched and planned capital improvement plan. The new construction, renovations, and repairs identified in the plan are real and immediate. The plan's schedule is based on legitimate short and long-term needs and does not reflect the typical "something for everyone" approach just to get the referendum passed. Isn't this what the tax payers have said they have wanted?
03-08-2008 22:05:57 - Katie Grindle: please send reasons why I should vote for this HUGE amt. of money again. rgrindle@islc.net.
03-08-2008 09:35:43 - a.d.wood: Building a high school for 450 students regardless of where it is located is just plain WRONG. Who in the world will want to teach there? Beaufort should withdraw from ACE and install extensive vocational facillities in all high schools. Very few or our students go on to four year colleges. As an old school board president I can not vote against this referendum but that does not mean it is right.
03-06-2008 21:36:22 - Amy Trask: Considering the low cost for home owners, how can I not vote for the referendum. These children are our future and deserve our support no matter the cost. I may not agree with every thing the school district does, but I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't vote for the referendum. Think about the kids children and leave politics aside. Beaufort has grown and our children deserve adequate facilities equipped for this technological age. We can't let small issues let us forget the big picture--children!!!
03-06-2008 20:20:09 - Cherimie: I think the money is better used on recruiting and retaining teachers. It seems to me some of our local schools are not even operating close to capacity!
03-06-2008 19:58:18 - Susan Morgan: Which schools are the priorities in this plan?.
03-06-2008 17:28:11 - robert white: Much better planned then in the past. Good job by staff.
03-06-2008 15:11:31 - R Fetters: Will the school board ever get it's act together?
03-06-2008 09:20:21 - Catherine Smith: The only thing the School Board actually does for Beaufort County is support Hilton Head and Bluffton. Every School has their own rules, and calendar! When is the School district going to stand up and Synchronize all their schools so that THEY ARE ALL EQUAL??????? Like the rest of the world?
03-06-2008 09:14:16 - Donald Blagburn: I support this initiative, but I'm aware it will effect primarily the situation in the Bluffton area. I only hope that same support will be returned in kind if the need develops north of the Broad river.
03-05-2008 18:24:21 - Mickey Fuller: I would hope that a short term solution to the Lady's Island overcrowding will be addressed in the VERY near future!.
