BEAUFORT COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT UNIFORM POLICY SURVEY
At the present time Lady’s Island Elementary and Lady’s Island Middle School require students to wear uniforms. Coosa Elementary and Beaufort High School do not have such a policy. Throughout the county approximately 50% of public schools have a uniform policy and 50% do not. The School Board is presently collecting public input on the subject and is scheduled to vote on whether a uniform policy should be developed for all of the public schools. If a positive vote is received on the matter a county wide uniform policy would be developed and presented to the School Board with a final vote scheduled for November.

08-05-2008 16:18:53 - Mickey Fuller, Ph.D.: Standardized uniforms will make every student equal as far as clothing goes - today it's very unappealing, at least to adults (girls' tight tops and short skirts, boys' baggy and low-slung pants). It also cuts down on the cost of school clothing for students.
08-05-2008 15:23:53 - Polly Graves: I feel that for the safety of our children, that all of our school children should be in uniform. With the rise of campus shootings & violence nationally, it may help to protect our children by being able to easily distinguish between students and non-students. It may also help to eliminate those that loiter on our school grounds before, during and at the end of the school day. I witnessed this on a daily basis at Beaufort High School.
08-05-2008 10:36:58 - Julie Johnson: A dress code is sufficient. Students need to learn to dress appropriately while still expressing their individuality. Parents should be called to come to school and pick up their student if inappropriately dressed.
07-22-2008 18:56:15 - Paul Sommerville: If parents want their children to attend school looking like gangsters and hookers they can apply for a charter for a charter school and call it hooker high or gangster high
07-18-2008 17:26:31 - Frank L. Turner: I think this a decision for students, their parents and school officials. I don't care one way or the other.
07-18-2008 12:21:30 - Jim Bequette: I am awaiting the comments from as many of you as possible.
07-18-2008 10:52:30 - Rick and Carol Butler: Once over the initial resistance, uniforms always seem to calm the peer pressures for omre outrageous/expensive dress. This saves parents money in the long run, and reduces distactions over "dress code" issues. Since only half our incoming ninth graders graduate now, complaints leading to dropouts would hardly seem to matter much.
07-18-2008 04:27:59 - Ann Rickard: I'm a grandparent of a student at Coosa Elementary. Let's get standardized uniforms at Beaufort County schools, and a ONE calendar system - the same schedule for ALL schools, NOB and SOB.
